Who are we?

connecting, coaching, and catalyzing simple churches in Calgary, Canada, and the nations!

The Mosaic Network is a collection of missional communities who are distinct self-governing, self-supporting, and self-multiplying entities which choose to relate to one another relationally. Some of our communities will be part of the Vineyard family of churches while others will have other affiliations. Together we encourage and share gifts and resources.

Doug

Doug Rempel

Hey, greetings and welcome to the Mosaic website. I’m glad you have joined us in looking at some cool stuff that is happening in our midst. You probably came here to look at other stuff than me, but while you’re waiting, I will squeeze in a few bits about myself.

Well, I really feel like a blessed guy, so many things to be thankful for and I can truely say it is good to be alive. It’s been an awesome journey being a Jesus follower these last many years. I have encountered Him in such a real way that it has gripped me beyond what I ever thought it could, so different than just hearing about Him or reading some book on Him. I guess out of those experiences I’ve found something that makes the world go around and around for me. At the risk of sounding too ‘out of touch’, ya I’ve had many a truck roll across my path, but whatever it is in Jesus, somehow he has made it real to me that He is into accident prevention and most definitely does well when the ‘collisions’ do happen in my life.

I love adventure and so whether its a weekend of camping, a trip to some distant land or loading up the dirt bikes for a ride on the track, I like to be there. My three children like to enjoy many of these things too and so that is super important to me, hanging out with them and being the best dad I can possibly be. What a joy to see them enjoy life! I think I’m also learning to see and enjoy simple things; a meal I cooked actually tasting awesome, throwing the baseball around with the children and the smile of someone feeling loved.

Like a lot of you, I spend many hours of my week at a place of employment. I am working at a large engineering company as a piping designer. Something I tell people is that it is like Legos for big kids! I get to design and help build plants/facilities that take all that oil and gas and make it into products we use everyday. My job feeds my desire to build and create. A side bonus of being there is that I get to work with many different people from all over the world and so experience lots of God’s amazing creation!

There is a tremendous opportunity for those of you who want to taste more of life through people, events and stories you will find on this website. Of course, if you don’t look you won’t find, so I guess its up to you what you get out of it. Anyway, keep looking and living!

Don

Don Maxwell

Don Maxwell is an adventure lover, husband, father, stumbling friend, recovering human, creative, big picture thinker and problem solver. He enjoys overcoming challenges by equipping individuals and building teams to accomplish meaningful tasks. “Mistakes are stepping stones” you will hear him say. “Hope” is central to his way of thinking, whether facing obstacles at work or his inner demons.

After graduating from Prairie High School Don completed a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from
Prairie Bible Institute. His family played prominent roles in founding and leading the college. After college he worked with Operation Mobilization in a variety of jobs for about 12 years in Europe and Central Asia. Don’s cross-cultural experiences started in early childhood in Colombia, South America, as a child of missionary parents. Besides enjoying travel and a variety of food he now speaks parts of Hindi/Urdu, Swedish and Spanish.

He met Shestine while working with “OM” and they were married in Sweden, her home country. They now have two adult children, Nina and Kevin, studying nearby in Alberta, Canada and he loves being part of their lives.

Presently Don is owner of a construction company, Maxwell Builders Inc. established in 1997.  For the past decade he has been involved in “recovery” courses, both for personal reasons and for facilitating the healing and growth of others. After personal issues around anger, isolation and anxiety became painful, frustrating and overwhelming, Don began what he describes as “a journey of brokenness and hope.” He says, “It was so refreshing to find a community that was safe enough to be honest about everything; my confusion, pain, doubt, anger, anxiety, and also offer me hope to change on the inside.”

He credits the start of his renewal to the recovery group at Westside Kings church in Calgary. He also participated in the Celebrate Recovery program at Crossroads in Red Deer and facilitated a Freedom Session group at Prairie Bible College in Three Hills. With these experiences of personal growth in community Don keeps encouraging others to form authentic communities everywhere.
